AUS studentsAmerican University of Sharjah (AUS) announces 2019 Summer Intensive Arabic Language Program (SIALP)

The Summer Intensive Arabic Language Program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a six-week, six-credit course aimed at developing Arabic language skills through formal classroom instruction and daily conversation practice with a native speaker. The Department of Arabic and Translation Studies offers this program in coordination with the International Exchange Office, and the package includes shared dorm housing on our beautiful campus in Sharjah, as well as excursions around Sharjah and Dubai.

AUS offers a fully accredited American-style education grounded in Gulf Arab culture. All programs are coeducational with English as the language of instruction. Our campus offers many amenities including cafés and restaurants, a grocery store, convenience store, bookstore, health clinic, pharmacy, travel agent, mosque, bank, sports complex, beauty salon, and barbershop. We are located only 20 minutes from historic downtown Sharjah, the city of Dubai, and Dubai International Airport.

The Emirate of Sharjah
UNESCO (1998) and ISESCO (2014) recognize the Emirate of Sharjah as Cultural Capital of the Arab and Islamic World. These honors reflect ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the Gulf Arab world’s rich cultural heritage through many world-class museums, art foundations, archaeological sites, and institutions of higher education. Sharjah’s University City neighborhood, home of AUS, is a beautiful park-like complex featuring Islamic architecture that is home to a number of other institutions of higher education, including a teaching hospital. As a traditional Arab city, Sharjah provides a real cultural contrast to futuristic Dubai, located just next door.

AUS students2“AUS provided me with skills pertaining to the Arabic language in a fun, rigorous atmosphere. While it was challenging, it was the most informative Arabic class that I have ever been a part of… My travel to the UAE has been the most influential travel of my life... My class was customized for my skill level.”
Monica Kreymer, Oklahoma State University

All elementary- and intermediate- level Arabic students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better are encouraged to apply. We administer an online placement test upon acceptance into the program for any students other than complete beginners. Sometimes, we also conduct follow-up Skype interviews to ensure the appropriate placement.
