AUS studentsAmerican University of Sharjah (AUS) announces 2018 Summer Intensive Arabic Language Program (SIALP)

The Summer Intensive Arabic Language Program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a six-week, six-credit course aimed at developing Arabic language skills through formal classroom instruction and daily conversation practice with a native speaker. The program is offered by the Department of Arabic and Translation Studies (ATS), in coordination with the Office of International Exchange Programs (IXO), and includes housing on our beautiful campus in Sharjah, as well as excursions around Sharjah and Dubai.

AUS is conveniently situated on a beautiful, park-like campus full of Islamic-style architecture, only 15 minutes from historical downtown Sharjah and the city of Dubai. We offer a fully accredited American-style education grounded in Gulf Arab culture. All programs are coeducational with English as the language of instruction. Our campus offers many amenities including cafés and restaurants, convenience stores, health clinic, a travel agent, a bank, a bowling alley, sports complex, a bookstore, pharmacy, beauty salon and barber shop.

In 1998, UNESCO named Sharjah the Cultural Capital of the Arab World for the work done in preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage, notably through its many museums. In addition, Sharjah was honored as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2014. The Emirate of Sharjah aims to revitalize the strong intellectual tradition of the Middle East through education. A noted example of this effort is University City, a beautiful park-like complex featuring Islamic architecture that is home to AUS and a number of other institutions of higher education, including a teaching hospital.

AUS students2“AUS provided me with skills pertaining to the Arabic language in a fun, rigorous atmosphere. While it was challenging, it was the most informative Arabic class that I have ever been a part of… My travel to the UAE has been the most influential travel of my life... My class was customized for my skill level.”
Monica Kreymer, Oklahoma State University

All elementary- and intermediate- level Arabic students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better are encouraged to apply. With the exception of complete beginners, online placement tests will be administered upon acceptance into the program. Follow-up Skype interviews may also be needed.
